News:Foursquare promised for N9, updated S40 variant

Been too long since your last MeeGo fix? Foursquare’s stepping in to hold you over with a video of the popular location-based service on Nokia’s upcoming N9. While waiting to get your grubby paws all over Elop’s miscarriage, indulge yourself in an updated S40 app — shown running here on a couple Touch-and-Type devices — which now features tighter Ovi Maps integration and the heretofore omitted “Explore” function. The inclusions, the company reckons, will help those in emerging markets like South America and Asia grow its ten million over-sharing user base. Glimpses of both can be seen beyond the break along with Foursquare’s CEO Naveen Selvadurai musing on all things Finnish.

Nokia E6 and X7 smartphones

we have our bets on the company ensuring newer, enticing handsets reach committed fans on time as being one in the list. It’s the much-talked about Nokia E6 and X7 smartphones fueled by the Symbian Anna OS available in India now that hold attention. Both devices feature an updated version of the Symbian^3 platform equipped with newer icons, enhanced usability, faster text input, updated web browser for faster surfing and Ovi Maps.
The E6 specifically made for business class users appears to have been completely redefined as compared to its successful predecessors, the Nokia E71 and E72. The sleek device is built with premium material consisting of scratch proof glass and a stainless steel body. The compact handset is also user-friendly. Equipped with a high resolution display, users gain access to Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SharePoint and Microsoft Communicator Mobile. A good battery life along with high grade enterprise security, accelerated encryption and enhanced e-mail features are other attributes users can look forward to.
Viral Oza, Marketing Director of Nokia India commented, “We aim to further consolidate our leadership position in the Indian smartphone market” and also further added that Nokia will start shipping the Nokia N8s, E7s, C7s and the C6-01s with the new Symbian Anna software update during the period of July to August. The Symbian Anna update is made available for downloaded to all existing Nokia users through the OTA software updater or via Ovi Suit. Over the next year Nokia plans on introducing ten new smartphones into the Indian market.”
As for the X7, it wraps in a 4” HD display and dedicated graphics. The company claims it to be a top-notch gaming device. The phone comes with an 8 megapixiel camera as well as HD video capture and playback capabilities. The device is preloaded with titles such as Galaxy on Fire HD and Asphalt 5 HD while users also have the option of downloading additional games from the Ovi store.

Firmware update with Nokia Symbian 3.2 and 5.0 devices

Nokia’s recent actions however show concern towards its previous phones. The company has released an update to all Nokia handsets running the Symbian 3.2 and 5.0 firmware.
Phones running on s60 v3 and s60 v5 editions were thought to be outdated as the team seemed to focused more on their newer smartphones. The company stated that its software engineers have been working hard to improve their devices by fixing bugs and other errors. The new update includes a faster web browser namely ‘Nokia browser v7.3’ also available in the Symbian Anna OS. The application will contain International Domain Names (IDNs) and also support to non-ASCII letters such as Chinese or Arabic.
As per Nokia conversations, a newer version of Maps will be accompanied with updated capabilities. Ovi Maps 3 SR4 for Symbian 3.2 will have an indoor positioning through Wi-Fi as well as travel and recommendation services similar to those on Lonely Planet. Ovi Maps 3 SR6 will come with public transportation lines and check-in services to social networking sites. The company has finally integrated a feature which was never seen before on Symbian devices, allowing users to send emotions via text messages and MMS.
